Sacrament of Confirmation Process

“Confirmed by the gift of the Spirit, that they give witness to Christ by lives built on faith and love…”

Teens who will be at least 16 years of age and have completed at least eight (8) credits of Catholic Christian Formation are eligible to enter into the confirmation preparation process. Teens in dialog with their parents should do the following:

Commit to attending Sunday Liturgy
Choose a sponsor
Commit to a ministry/service
Attend a monthly Confirmation session
Interviews with one of the Directors or adult leader
Attend an afternoon retreat with sponsor
(Two are offered – one on Saturday afternoon and one on a Sunday) Attend a overnight retreat – two offered, one in the summer and one in the winter

Each teen that is involved in the confirmation process is treated as an individual. Bringing teens closed to God and celebrating that faith within the parish community is the number one goal of the process.

The calendar with the dates and times when the teens meet will be given out at the parent/teen orientations. The dates are also posted on the Calendar of Events, The dates for the confirmation process are posted in red.

Confirmation dinner and rehearsal: This dinner is for the candidates, parents, family, sponsors and mentors. The meal will be catered and a small fee will be collected for each person attending. The rehearsal will follow the dinner. The dinner and rehearsal usually takes about two hours.

Confirmation Ceremony: The date, time and place will be announced as soon as possible. The date depends on the Bishop’s schedule.

Sponsor information for the Sacrament of Confirmation

Congratulations! A young person for a special role has chosen you. A wonderful adventure in the spiritual life awaits the two of you. As a Confirmation Sponsor, you have accepted a responsibility that is an honor in our church.

Your role is to spirituality walk with the candidate during the preparation for the sacrament. You will be assisting the young person in being a true witness and disciple of Jesus and representing the community when you present your candidate to the Bishop. Your special role does not end at the celebration of the sacrament! You will help the young person fulfill his or her baptismal promises after celebrating the sacrament of confirmation.

Diocesan guidelines require contact hours of formation with sponsors and candidates. Therefore, we will have a half-day retreat for candidates and sponsors. In order to honor your busy schedules we will offer you two dates from which to choose – one on a Saturday afternoon and the other on a Sunday afternoon.

You will be asked to have you parish office sign a form letter stating that you are a registered member of that parish community and are fully initiated in the Catholic faith. (This means that you are a baptized Catholic, confirmed in the faith and attend Mass on a regular basis.)

Half-day retreat choices are:

Saturday, October 13, 1-5:00 p.m.
OR
Sunday, October 21, 1-5:00 p.m.

Both retreats will be held at St. Aloysius in Rye, CO Directions to St. Aloysius will be given to candidates or you can find directions on this website under Calendar of Events , click on the date of each retreat for directions.
